 The history of the Suzuki Jimny goes back half a century and has 2.85 million Jimny units produced. But now we are meeting only the fourth generation of the car. Minor for today: other models manage to change a dozen generations in a similar period. To understand the scale of consistency - the last "third" Suzuki Jimny started in 1998 and was produced for 20 years: he managed to catch the first generation of Toyota RAV4, survived the second, third and fourth, and then safely met the "fifth" RAV4. What is the reason for this stability? Is the design perfect? Or a banal unwillingness to change?

 Stop, though: the phrase “unwillingness to change” is clearly not about the design of the new Suzuki Jimny. If in the past Suzuki Jimny was a full-fledged SUV (only small), but tried to resemble a "city crossover", now it is not shy about its harsh nature. Smooth horizontal lines, a lot of angular parts, widened wheel arches - every detail demonstrates strength and readiness to conquer off-road. At the same time, the design of some details directly intersect with the previous generations of the car: round headlights and separate "turn signals" nearby - a reference to the first Jimny, horizontal taillights - to the second, the radiator grill - to the third. But most of all in the design of the novelty, the roof with a gutter canopy around the perimeter is remembered. This design makes the Suzuki Jimny look like you know who.

 With the change of generations, Suzuki Jimny became a little shorter (3645 mm including the spare wheel cover), but wider (1645 mm) and higher (1720 mm). The wheelbase has not changed - 2250 mm, the ground clearance reaches 210 mm. The body is still only 3-door, 4-seater interior. But thanks to the change in the layout (angular body, the windshield is brought forward and stands almost vertically), the cabin has become more spacious. The minimum trunk volume is 85 liters (no joke), the maximum is 830 liters, provided the rear seats are folded down and loaded to the ceiling. Depending on the version and equipment, the curb vehicle weighs 1090-1135 kg, the carrying capacity is 300-345 kg. Tire dimension - 195 / 80R15.

 The general idea and concept of the car remained the same: the frame structure, continuous axles (front too!) And springs, four-wheel drive and a lowering row, a gasoline engine with a longitudinal arrangement. In addition, each component has been redesigned. A 1.5-liter petrol engine is now installed under the hood instead of the 1.3-liter engine previously. The increased displacement and the VVT ​​variable valve timing system made it possible to "remove" more power and torque: 102 hp. at 6000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. - against 85 hp and 110 Nm earlier. The frame received a center X-shaped reinforcement and two cross members - all for increased rigidity. A damper has been added to the steering to reduce the jerk and jerk of the steering wheel when driving off-road.

 The ALLGRIP PRO transmission has retained the previous scheme: four-wheel drive with rigid connection of the front wheels and a lowering row. Only now, transmission modes are switched using a lever, and previously there were buttons. As before, in tandem with the motor, either 5-speed can work. "Mechanics" (but with a modified backstage mount), or 4-speed. "Automatic" (but with rewritten software for a new motor). Moreover, the main pair and the ratio in the lowering row differs for two transmissions: for manual transmissions - 4.09 (main pair) and 2.002 (lowering row), for automatic transmissions - 4.3 (main pair) and 2.644 (lowering row). But the overall gear ratios - of a specific gear, main pair, reduction row - are selected so that the version with "mechanics" provides more traction on the wheels.
