Test drive Mitsubishi ASX 2020 - part 2

It so happened that two of my test cars had the same color - but the details in the exterior are still different. The basic version with a 1.6-liter engine and front-wheel drive rides on 16 "caps", is devoid of fog lights, and the decor on the front fenders is made of dark plastic. The maximum 2-liter ASX is decorated with 18-inch wheels and chrome decor on the sidewalls, in the rectangular "cheeks" of the front bumper there are now "fog lights". Although the main LED headlights are always there: to the credit of the "base". The rear part attracts attention with T-shaped lanterns, the difference between the TOP version is only in the barely noticeable 4WD logo and in the parking sensors.

 And besides appearance? New technique?

Is that in the cabin, and even then only for the TOP version. We are talking about the new Mitsubishi Connect 2 multimedia system with an enlarged touchscreen display (diagonal 8 inches) and a "redrawn" menu. The new multimedia is good because it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies: maximum integration with your smartphone, on-line map, music playback. The new menu is easier to manage due to localization-translation and simply the physically larger size of the screen itself. Although sometimes at some points you realize that the virtual buttons are too small: with such a display diagonal, they could have been made larger. But the round washers for adjusting the volume and searching for radio stations have been preserved, and they are designed in the same style as the "climate" unit: visually, this solution unites the central part of the cabin. By the way, on the previous multimedia system, which is installed on the 1.6-liter version, there are even more physical controls - the usual buttons are installed to the right / left of the screen. However, there is a lack of navigation, localization-translation, smartphone integration ... The only good thing is the presence of a picture from the rear-view camera: yes, the camera is already “in the database”.

Otherwise, there are no technical changes. Under the hood are naturally aspirated engines with a volume of 1.6 liters (117 hp) or 2.0 liters (150 hp): a 5-speed motor is paired with a younger engine. "Mechanics" and four-wheel drive, the older motor has no alternative to an "automatic" in the form of a CVT-variator and four-wheel drive. The platform is described in the previous version of the ASX: monocoque body, fully independent suspension, disc brakes "in a circle", electric power steering. In a word, having finished with a description of the design and a new multimedia system, I actually finished with a description of the changes in the Mitsubishi ASX 2020 car.

The main change in technology is a new multimedia system in the cabin: a larger display diagonal, support for smartphone integration. Moreover, this is a feature of the TOP version, in the "base" everything is more modest, although - suddenly, but there is a rear-view camera. You will not find innovations under the hood: naturally aspirated motors, “mechanics” or variator, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. But you can find many stickers "Made in Japan": the Mitsubishi ASX 2020 crossover is the case when a Japanese car is really Japanese.
